Arjun Awardee Ignace Tirkey`s village team Lulkidihi crushed Padmashree Awardee Dilip Tirkey`s village team Saunamara 12-3 in the final to win the Benjamin Memorial Six-a-side One-day Hockey Tournament held at Saunamara in Sundargarh district of Orissa today.
Altogether six teams took part in the tournament, which was organised by Dilip Tirkey Sports Research and Development Foundation in the memory of former India hockey captain Dilip Tirkey`s grandfather Benjamin Tirkey. Other four teams in the fray included Nimadihi, Budabahal, Tangarbahal and Tileikani.
Budabahal`s Suleman Dung Dung was adjudged as the player of the tournament. Sponsored by Bhubaneswar-based Gandhi Engineering College and State Civil Supply Corporation, the tournament drew a crowd of over 5,000 spectators. Sundargarh District Council chairperson Saforina Toppo, Olympian Dilip Tirkey and former India hockey captain Prabodh Tirkey gave away the trophy and prizes at the closing function.
